Random 2008 Awards

So I can't QUITE do my top 10, 15, 2, whatever, because I have yet to see The Reader, Revolutionary Road, and The Wrestler (comes out this Friday). Then I'll put up the official list. BUT I do know that I can do my Top 5 Worst Movies of 08 and My Undderrated movie of 08 and my other random awards.

TOP 5 WORST MOVIES OF 2008
So there were some stinkers this year. A lot acctually. Here are my top 5...
5. Street Kings - Yes Keanu Reeves rears his ugly head in this terrible bad-cop conspiracy film. Even Hugh Laurie can't save it. The only thing keeping it from being #2 or #3 is the sweet use of Lupe Fiasco songs. Theres a rapper to check out.
4. Hell Ride - Didn't see this bad motorcycle trying-to-be-Tarantino movie? Lets keep it that way.
3. Speed Racer - In several reviews I read, Speed Racer was somehow paralleled to candy. Cotton Candy, Skittles, Chocolate...the problem with this comparison is that people LOVE candy. People don't love confusing kids movies that are too colorful, too fast-pased, and too unfunny.
2. Jumper - Hayden Christiansen is the worst actor ever. No denying it. Even a smooth talking Jamie Bell and a badass Samuel L. Jackson couldn't save this flop. It even leaves room for Jumper 2...oh boy.
1. The Spirit - " Come on! Toilets are always funny! " - The Octopus (Samuel L Jackson). Are they funny? Because there aren't any toilets in your movie, but IT'S funny. It makes no sense, the dialouge is runny...runny like eggs. Speaking of Eggs Jacksons character makes about 200 Runny Egg references that are annoying to the highest degree. Plus it's shot in a visual style we've already seen in Sin City. DO NOT SEE EVER.

Most Overrated Film of 2008 - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
So many bad things about it just be glad it's not on the top 5 above this. Harrison Ford can sure pull the fadora and bullwhip, but he picked this Science-Fiction movie to do it? C'mon, Indy is about finding old artifacts with historical and religious references. Sure the Ark is a little out there, and the holy grail was kinda corny, but ALIENS??!! My God Lucas you have sold out. The worst part of the movie though is that it has now infected the minds of young people everywhere. When you bring up Indiana Jones now everyone younger than 18 is going to think of Aliens and Shia LaBeouf. It brings sorrow to my heavy eyes and sometimes, even a tear.

Most Undderated Film of 2008 - The Rocker
Yes! Really! April Fools is still 4 months away! The Rocker is actually somewhat humorus. Is it amazing? No. But no one saw it and it's actually got some decent music and some pretty funny physical humor. It's on DVD and it's worth a watch.

Films that lived up to their Hype - The Dark Knight, Iron Man
Both movies had AMAZING trailers. Both movies made millions at the box office and were "must-sees". Both live up to there hype. I'll keep this one short because I'm sure you've already seen them.

Films that didn't live up to their Hype - Chronicals of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skyll
Similarly to The Dark Knight and Iron Man these movies had not only bad trailers, but also a precedence. They had amazing first instalments that were sure to lead to a big delivery come their release. While Prince Caspian wasn't terrible compare it for a moment to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Now you see my point. Do the same thing for Indy, but compare it to learning there is no Santa Clause. They're very similar.
