I Love You Man review

I Love You Man is the best movie you're going to see in Spring of 2009. There. It's been said. It's hilarious, witty, and incredibly relevant and I can't see anyone going out and finding a funnier movie between now and the end of April (There may be one....I Doubt it)

I Love You Man is the story of a man, Peter (Paul Rudd), who has no other man friends. He is now getting married and when it comes time to find a best man, he has none. Enter Sidney (Jason Segel). Together the two have a wonderful relationship. The two cover Rush songs in Sid's basement, fight Lou Ferrigno, and get in wild escapades. It's not all fun and games though. Peter spends too much time with Sidney, they break up so Peter can have a healthy relationship with his fiance. Sidney comes to win back Peters heart. The end.

Yes. It is a gay take on most romantic comedies. But its hilarious and sharp witted enough to pull it off in a totally non gay way (the day for Brokeback Mountain meets How To Loose a Guy in 10 Days will come...its not today). One potential problem I saw with the film is that this is a sitcom. It's not a movie. And while I'm fine with that (you laugh enough that you don't care by the end) it is slightly depressing that the movie has the feel of a TV Show. It's neither here nor there, but it is a new take none the less.

The only real issue I had with the movie is it's longevity. Will it be a "comedy for the ages"? I don't know. It has too many current pop culture references to see right now. But in 2009 the movie gets an A. We'll see about the future.
