Sexdrive Review

Sexdrive has been constantly referred to as "this year's Superbad". Looking at them side by side, it is. It's a comedy that's crass, outrageous, combines two words into one for the title, and stared unknowns. Where Sexdrive is able to beat it's opponent is in a more feel good ending and a more relatable and "crazy" if you will, story.

The best aspects of Sexdrive are it's stars. Josh Zuckerman plays the lead character Ian, a high schooler so uncomfortable and unconfident in his sexual ambitions and desires that he resorted to talking to a girl named "Ms. Tasty" on the Internet. She tells him they can have sex if he drives to Kentucky in a '69 GTO Judge that is his brothers. So he and his two friends Felicia and Lance (Amanda Crew and Clark Duke) travel with him and wacky things happen along the way.

The best parts of the movie Seth Green as an Amish man who helps them out of several situations involving the car. He has a witty sense of humor in the film that keeps not only the 3 cast member but also us the viewer on our toes. Also newcomer Clark Duke is outrageously hilarious. His character lance is so cool you almost wonder why he's friends with a Joe-shmoe like Ian.

The movie isn't with out minor flaws though. At times it relies on repetition. We see Ian loose his clothes in the beginning of the movie and it was funny, at the end though it's not. Some of the situations also begin to get slightly unbelievable (AKA the Whole ending) but this was of little concern to me, seeing as it didn't slow the laughs down. It merely didn't increase them like they were going for.

Sexdrive is being marketed for a teen demographic and that's the mindset you have to have going into it. It's crass and vulgar but it all ties somewhat together into a heartfelt, message bearing ending. The final 3 minutes had me giddy in a way Superbad couldn't have dreamt of.
